    A lot of self-definition comes from external sources giving us messages about who we are. I think that cummings is urging us to shed what people tell us we are and try to discover our truths free of those definitions.

      We go to school to learn, but very infrequently are we taught to consider whether what we read and hear is accurate for us individually.
